Mimi & Scott O’Brien

Mimi and Scott O’Brien are Nevada natives, having been born and raised in Reno. Scott is a school district police officer, and Mimi owns The Lark, a small shop in the community. The couple set down roots just down the road from Mimi’s childhood home, excited to raise their two young children in the same neighborhood in which they grew up.

2018 Electrical Fire

Unfortunately, the couple lost part of their dream home to an electrical fire in April of 2018. Determined, the O’Briens rebuilt their home with the help and generosity of their neighbors and friends. They worked side jobs and saved until they managed to rebuild with all of their dream appliances, ready to resume their lives. Unfortunately, tragedy would strike again.

Pinehaven Fire

Within two years of the original fire, the family suffered another home loss. While Scott was on duty, the Pinehaven fire neared the neighborhood, leaving a 9-month pregnant Mimi to evacuate alone. Fortunately, Mimi was able to evacuate with her sons and dogs, while Scott assisted with the area evacuation. This time, however, they lost the entire home, and they weren’t the only ones. The O’Briens are one of five lost homes due to this wildfire that was thankfully halted due to a well-timed rain.

Road to Recovery

Thankfully, the community rallied around the O’Briens and started a GoFundMe to raise money for rebuilding. While the effort was unprecedented, it still was not enough to completely rebuild the home. While they save for the eventual rebuilding, the family plans to live with Mimi’s mother.
